Default Moving to Guild Wars

Hey all!

I and my friends are moving with our guild to Guild Wars. (we played ME but that game was just ruined by the programmers lol)
We're with about 10-15 people and we'd like to have some more information about the game (particuarly about the professions)

I searched this forum for some information, but couldnt find it, so I hope im not repeating everything. (i know thats very annoying :P)

We all didnt play the game for a long time and some are new to the game, so we are wondering what the best combination of professions is.
This is what we've already got:
-Paragon
-Ranger
-Ranger
-Elementalist
-Monk
-Warrior
-Necromancer
(some didnt choose yet)

We thought it would be nice to have one leading character (paragon) and one tank (warrior) a healing guy to heal the warrior and the others is support and damagedealers. We wont be online at the same time so lets just say we are always in a party of 6 people..

What would be the best combination of professions in the party?
And what is the best second profession with each first profession?

once again, Im sorry if I repeat this question. but I simply couldnt find anything about this (even not with the search option)

Thanks,
Wit~

No need to apologise ,thats what forums are for

As your questions may use up a lot of discussion ita better to look here on all classes including what secondary .(which you can change later in game if you like)

then you will get a better insight to each class

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/f...splay.php?f=17

Then you will be able to get a broader insight into what is a better or a profession you like

As each of you will have a large number of slots combined you have a wide option

Hope the link helps you out

Welcome to Guild Wars

as far as a party of 8 goes, this is what seems to work:

1 Monk

1 Monk or Ritualist or paragon (monk seems to do best here until the player is very experienced and/or has lots of pve-only skills)

1 Warrior or dervish or assassin to (the frontline is optional but comes in handy; also can be replaced with a necro summoning minions in pve)

1 Ranger or mesmer (also optional, but interrupts and shutdown are very handy, especially in normal mode)

4 caster types for massive damage (necromancer and elementalist seem to work most easily, also can be replaced with high damage frontliners if you like) (or anything can do damage; its really up to you)

honestly, you can make a decent party out of any 8 classes as long as you have 2 healer types, or even one healer type and a protection class like paragon or ritualist

i hope this helps

Whatever you do, make sure you have a necro.

I like Necromancers. Therefore, you should have one. They can make minions to fight for you, they can hex the enemies using hexes like Spitefull Spirit (Which damages the foe every time it attacks or uses a skill), It can provide energy support to the part with things like Blood Is Power, And alot more.

Ok, so i'm biased (my first character [and favorite character] is a necromancer), but you should look into having at least one necromancer in your team.

And have fun!

@Condition
Oooh, im not new to the game ^^ I played Nightfall one year ago.. but I forgot about everything about the game and we like to make a good start, so thats why I am asking all this.
And of course I am more exited now then one year ago.. wth! Im going to play with over 10 friends in one guild, At the same time! Awsome isnt it?

@Some_Guy
Somebody just applied for Necromancer ^^ So I think we're good for now
and if we need 2 necro's.. Some of the guild members havent seen the thread yet (its on the forum of another game). So maybe one of them wants to be a necro as well ^^

We're even setting up a Guild-Website and we're planning to be a powerfull guild ^^ Teamwork is like priority 1. &GuildWars = Teamwork.

Maybe you guys will see our guild some day :P Our guild is "Drøm", it stands for Dream in many languages.

Good luck with your guild!!! It's very hard to start a new guild but it's probably me being lazy.

wars and monks (plural as in multiple)
try to have at least 1 in each group
so u'll prolly want a few of ur friendy's to have either

from there, u can do wutever mix of professions u like

oh, and read this: team roles

to sum it up:
frontline (war, derv, sin)
midline (ranger, ele, mes, nec, rit, paragon)
backline (monk)

as u can see...
gw has a lot of midlines, and not as many frontlines/backlines
thats y its always good to have a few wars and monks around

wars because they r all-around good, versatile for any situation
dervs and sins r generally more specialized or fit into more specific builds other than balanced

and of course there can be classes used as different roles
some will consider rit a backline...but personally i dun
and derv can be seen as a midline
etc etc

After reading all your helpfull replies, I can make a summary of what (one of the) best parties should look like:
1 warrior
2 monks
1 paragon
1/2 necromancer
3 mass damage (probby elementalist)

Right? Would that be okay? ^^
for the second professions.. we will see what that's going to be. Based on what we need.. and like

I'll take a look at any further replies in an hour or 2 :P I g2g now xD

gw isnt quite like other games with team roles

frontline (wars) r for dmg
and midline (rangers/eles/etc) r for support

tanks -can- work in pve
but its generally not worth it

if u really wanna adapt to gw meta

u need to have ur frontline with all teh dmg
and ur midline supporting them

instead of ur frontline holding aggro
and ur midline nukin teh crap out of teh mobs

In pvp I'd agree, but that is entirely debatable in pve. I can happily run a group with 0 frontline, and use either a necromancer minion master to take agro, or mass protections. Properly played casters most of the time will deal more damage than warriors and cause less over-agroing in pve.

To OP:
You mentioned there are 10 of you, experiment to see what suits you, in pve other than elite areas you can generally mix it up however you see fit, just make sure you have enough healers/protectors (1-2)

auto-attack beats ele dps
attack skills do armor-ignoring dmg

support skills to help boost dmg, such as [splinter weapon] and [order of pain] r also armor-ignoring dmg

"tank-n-spank" is only viable due to aoe
if u do not aggro properly to make sure aoe is maximized, it is inefficient

even when -properly- aggro'd, it is still usually slower in most cases than a physical-dmg based team

a lot of things r -viable-
im only suggesting wut is currently one of the -best- choices in gw pve

Lol, I kinda agree with Nainoa XD but I can understand it.. after rereading

Anyways,
Like JMFD said, we are not going to play PvP very much (maybe later on.. but lets just say we are playing PvE only), we want to complete EVERY sequal in the end.. We like the story ^^

So what is the role of each profession?
Like warrior is in most game a tank, ranger support, elementalist damage dealing and monk buffs/healing.
Could you please explain this for every class?

And what about Mesmer, Dervish, Assassin and Ritualist? You guys didnt speak of those.. Does that mean we dont need them??

And I'd like to know if this party is a good party:
1 warrior
1 paragon
2 monks
1/2 necromancers
2/3 elementalists
Should we take 1 or 2 necromancers? 1 or 2 monks? 2 or 3 elementalists? Maybe add a mesmer, dervish or another prof.?

Two Necros, three? It doesn't matter overly. I personally, when using Heroes and Henchmen (because I can ) hardly ever take a melee, but stock up on ward-dumping Eles, a Paragon here or there, Interrupts (Mesmer or Ranger heroes) and a Minion Mastering Necromancer to keep my squishy party a bit safer.

Ritualists are fun, but their skills are a tad... off. I suggest that your friends check out the Campfire sections below on their chosen class/es and also bear in mind that you can have more than one character. I have nine

One problem you may run into is party size. It ranger from 2-12 depending on where you are. So if you got 10 friends, and the group size is 8... Just be prepared for that kind of stuff.
